He Stilled the Storm

I love how great our God is! He is able to walk right into the midst of a storm and all gets quiet.
When Jesus and His disciples were out in a boat on the lake and a great storm arose, Jesus spoke and the storm died down. His disciple, Matthew, tells us that the men with Jesus "were amazed" and asked, "What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey Him!" (Matt 8:27).

Do the Right Thing

James, the brother of Jesus, writes:
"...if you know the right thing to do and don’t do it, that, for you, is evil." (James 4:17)

Choosing to do the right thing is not always easy. In fact, sometimes it's downright difficult. People make us angry, circumstances frustrate us, life doesn't seen fair, society can pressure us, and sin sometimes looks enticing. Let's be honest here. We don't always want to do the right thing.

Desire, even though it affects us, does not have to rule over us. We can still choose to do the right thing even when we don't want to. We can choose to do the right thing even in difficult circumstances. We can choose to do the right thing even when no one else does.

And when we don't choose to do the right thing, it's evil...it's sin. James just calls it like it is. Plain and simple. And sin separates us from God.

In every circumstance of life where we have a choice, God calls us to bypass our feelings and CHOOSE to do what is right. In a world where everyone seems to just do what they feel, Kingdom citizens are called to be different. We are called to make choices that please and honor God.
